Do I have to pay import duties?

babaà ships from inside the European Union. So customs and import duties depend on your country’s trading relationship with the EU.  As customs can vary from country to country we advise you check your own country’s import status if you are unsure.

By way of example;

EU member states:  No import duties
USA: No import duties on orders below $800 in declared value

—–

UK:

babaà now pays all import duties and taxes for our UK customers, so you will no longer be liable for any extra charges or delays.

——

If your country does charge import duties on items imported from the EU, our courier (UPS) will contact you and arrange payment directly inside your country.

Do you charge sales taxes?

We want everyone to pay the same for their babaà regardless of the country they happen to live in. So our prices are inclusive of all sales taxes and are the same around the globe.

EU sales are liable for VAT, but don’t worry, we pay it on your behalf. The VAT paid for EU orders will be stated at the checkout and on your invoice.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

How do I know which size is right for me?

Most babaà styles for adults come in one size only, but we offer pieces that fit in many different ways, from extra petite to extra oversized. There is a babaà for everybody and every body type. Much depends on the look you’re after and how you style it.

For kids we offer sizes based on ages ranging from 0 – 8 years old.

To get a better idea of how the piece you love fits, take a look at the size guide on each product page.

If you still have doubts or questions, reach out to our customer care team.

For further sizing reference and inspiration, visit our Instagram page and explore the hashtags #livinginbabaa and #youwearbabaabest — we can’t wait to see how you wear yours.

Do you plan to expand your size range?

As our “One Size” model is a crucial part of how our business is able to sustain – given our very small margins – we don’t have any plans to alter our sizing model at this time.

When we began babaà, our intent was to build a sustainable brand that invested in the local community, treated all of its workers ethically and paid them fairly, and was environmentally and socially responsible. While there have been many learning curves and struggles, we’re proud to say that we have never strayed from these guiding principles and continue to get better and better at incorporating new sustainable technologies.

We love seeing babaà take a life of its own – customers of different shapes and sizes style and wear their babaà pieces in myriad ways. One of the things that attracted us to knitwear was its versatility, in its “One Size” many items can be worn oversized or fitted and often contour to a person’s body. We have begun including the measurements of each item on our site so that our customers can get a better sense of whether an item may fit them, keeping in mind that some knits can easily stretch. We hope that you are able to find something that works for you among our selection.

Why do you have sizes for children and men but not women?

For children and men, we have committed to making a smaller collection of styles to accommodate different heights. With women, we felt it made more sense for the brand to offer more styles that fit different types of body shapes, rather than limited styles in a variety of sizes.

Is babaà environmentally responsible?

Sustainability is central to our brand ethos. We try to keep a small carbon footprint by sourcing all material and production inside Spain. Working exclusively with local Spanish farmers we know and trust, we only ever use 100% natural materials.

All our cotton is grown by small regional producers and our sheep are raised by shepherds who subscribe to transhumance, a low-impact, animal-friendly philosophy which raises happy sheep in an eco-friendly way.

Many of our styles are un-dyed. Even styles in our most vibrant colors are treated in a safe and environmentally sound way. Our dyeing process uses 60% less water than the industry standard and creates absolutely no toxic byproducts. We are constantly researching ways to be even more sustainable, combining the best of artisanal tradition with the latest in green technology.

babaà knits are made with durability in mind, these are keepsake items intended to last a lifetime.

To learn more about how your babaà is made, please read our making babaà web page and blog posts for full breakdowns of the process.

How do I care for my babaà?

All items can be washed with cold water on a wool or delicate cycle in the machine and laid flat to dry.

We do not recommend soaking or hanging to dry.

Click here to learn more about caring for your babaà items.

Should I dry clean?

Dry cleaning in particular is not advised as it’s harsh on both the fabric and the environment.

For spot care, we suggest applying a mild detergent directly to the stain before putting it in the machine. See our care page for more details on looking after your knits.

How can I soften the wool?

Our wool comes straight from our sheep to you. In some cases it has never been treated or dyed. Because of this, some people may find the wool mildly abrasive at first. However the wool will soften naturally with each wearing as it adapts, softens and conforms to its new owner.

If you want to speed up the process, we recommend washing the wool at 0 degrees Celsius with a mild detergent and a thimbleful of organic hair conditioner. This should take away any roughness. We promise that soon you won’t want to wear any other wool!

Why does cotton have some minor discoloration after I hand wash?

Our cotton is minimally treated, it will continue to exude its natural oils long after harvest. Letting the cotton soak for too long while hand washing can bring these oils to the surface, which may result in mild discolored streaks. For this reason, we recommend machine washing our cotton pieces on gentle with a natural detergent.

If you do over soak your cotton and notice any discoloration, no need for alarm, a quick trip through the washing machine should wash these oils away.

Why is there straw in my wool garment?

Our babaà knits are very close to nature, sometimes there’s a bit of nature in them!

This happens because our local wool is minimally treated, so you may find bits of our sheep’s natural habitat mixed in from time to time. If you find this bothersome, simply pull the fibers out with your fingers, it shouldn’t damage the wool.

How can I stop my wool from pilling?

Pilling is a natural part of the wool’s life cycle caused by the friction of the fibers rubbing together. While there is no way of preventing pilling you can easily remove it. Simply remove any pills with your fingers or a good wool comb to reveal the fresh fibers underneath.

The wool will pill less and less as time goes on. Our knits get better with age!

How often do you restock items?

We only make a select number of pieces each season, so if you have your eye on something, don’t wait! There’s a chance it won’t be back for another year.

If the item you want is out of stock it may have a waiting list available. Simply add your email address to the wait list on the product’s page and you will be emailed if or when we restock.

Can I buy babaà in retail shops?

babaà is sold exclusively on our website and is not available in shops or any other websites.

However with each season we may have sales events at markets, festivals or fairs.

Sign up for our newsletter if you would like to stay informed about any upcoming retail sales events.

Do any aspects of babaà’s production involve developing countries?

No. We are fully committed to ethical and responsible textile production, all aspects of our farming and manufacturing is sourced and conducted inside Spain. As such, everyone in our production chain is subject to Spanish & European Union labour laws, health & safety regulations and employment practices.

How are  babaà clothes priced ?

We want to make babaà as affordable as possible. Our commitment to responsible and sustainable farming & manufacturing inside the EU does carry significant costs.

Over the years shepherds, farmers, mill workers, seamstresses and everyone in between have come to rely on us for their livelihood, this is something we take great pride in and is reflected in our pricing.

Do you sell second hand items?

No. All items sold on our website are brand new. We are aware that there are other websites and social media accounts that sell used and second hand babaà items.

While this may seem a great way to get a bargain, we do offer these words of caution;

In the past we have seen counterfeit babaà items for sale masquerading as second hand originals.  This is particularity distressing as many of these items are poorly made and may involve the exploitation of workers in developing countries. So please only buy second hand babaà from sellers you absolutely trust or better yet…wait for one of our sales and buy direct from us.

Does babaà have any sales?

Yes. We understand how much our customers look forward to sales, so we feel it is important to be clear and upfront about when and how many we have.

We normally have three sales per year;

Summer Sale :
